Wood Baseball
During the game, you’ll smell popcorn and freshly cut grass. You’ll hear the distinctive pop of the bat—one of the most famous sounds in baseball. This is a unique characteristic of wooden baseball bats. One material used by college and minor league baseball teams to make bats is aluminum, which is not used at the MLB level. Professional leagues have strict policies on aluminum bats. One, it’s too dangerous. The ball hits faster. MLB players represent some of the best athletes in the world. Their increased bat speed and ability to throw heavier than anyone else makes using aluminum too risky. Colleges and minor leagues use them mostly because they are less expensive than the alternatives.
